Biosecurity Management Planning Anywhere in the World
Working with the British Antarctic Survey – Natural Environment Research Council Loynes undertook the biosecurity management planning for the shipment of materials and equipment from the UK to the Rothera Research Station in Antarctica. The first stage of the project was the construction of a new wharf in Antarctica for the research ship RRS Sir David Attenborough to dock and to improve ease of use for smaller research vessels. Loynes developed the biosecurity management plan and supervised the establishment of a secure facility in the UK for the purpose of cleaning and storing the materials and equipment before loading and shipping. The work also involved a ship cleanliness inspection. Australia’s stringent biosecurity standards provides the opportunity for Loynes’ team to develop their quarantine expertise - now in demand worldwide.
